I once had five cats
But now I have four
Once ran outside
When I opened the door
It didn’t come back
That miserable cat
But I guess one thru four
Is oh , so much more
I once had four kites
‘Til one blew out of sight
It just slipped from my grasp
And I let out a gasp
But one, two and three
Are tied to a tree
I’ll just wait with a frown
For the wind to calm down
I once had three cakes
But I made the mistake
To give my friend Zach
A late afternoon snack
He ate a whole cake
For goodness sake
I’ll just save the last two for my neighbor Lulu
I once had two friends
One for real, one pretend
I asked them for tea
It soon became three
I offered them cake
We chatted and baked
Zach knocked on the door
And three became four
We flew my three kites
To incredible heights
Then Lulu joined in
A kite in each hand
Next came my cat
Hey! How about that!
Looking the same
But a little bit fat
Next thing she had kittens
And I’m feeling quite smitten
Because ALL ten of my friends
Okay six are pretend
Can fly home a cat
On a kite
With a bite
Of the cake we just baked
I just think that’s great
Gee, I guess there will be none left for me
Except for one cat and a kite in the tree
