... Towey's mellow folk-rock voice is reminiscent of Belinda Carlisle and Michelle Shocked. Her backup band of electric guitar, bass, and drums maintains a groovy vibe that balances pop and folk musical styles. Kids will find it easy to join in on songs such as "Your House," with humorous lines such as, "You can come to my house but there's nothing to do"....

Dre Towey recorded her first solo CD for children, Chester the Dog to much deserved acclaim. Her newest, Sugar on Top, continues her skillful wordplay, strong instrumentation and hip delivery. Adults will be reminded of singer/songwriters such as Jonatha Brooks, Suzanne Vega and particularly Michelle Shocked (to whom Towey owes much of her vocal style), but kids will simply love her unbridled spunkiness. Fourteen of the new album's eighteen tracks are original. To the other four, Towey brings fresh and lively takes to traditional material like "Aiken Drum," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," and "This Old Man". Her originals sparkle with invention and spirit, and include her astronomically educational "Space Cowboy," "Goggles" which is first cousin to Loudon Wainwright III's classic "Swimming Song," and her Harry Nilsson-like ode to the "Number 3." Elsewhere, we have a rocking song about "Socks 'N' Shoes," "Lemonade For Sale" rapped/sung by her daughter, and a wonderfully strange song called "Criss Cross Applesauce." Towey writes intelligent, fun and slyly educational songs that kids will love, and which parents will easily welcome into their car and their home....

...As you may well know it’s not always so easy finding “Mommy-and-mes” that aren’t a little dull/repetitive/lame… (pick your adjective) for Mom after a while. I know it’s all about THEM. But, let’s face it, Mama’s got to sit through these classes week after week too!! So they might as well be enjoyable for us! (Besides, research shows a happy mom makes a happy babe!)

Fortunately moments after rock ‘n roll mom Dre began strumming her guitar, I knew Hannah and I were both in a for a treat.

Grab your stroller pushing galpals and make this a regular stop on your schedule. Dre will get those toddlers up on their feet dancing to her catchy tunes. The bonus is, it's music you'll like too!

Towey has recently released her own debut album, Chester the Dog Unleashed. Backed by members of King for a Day, the disc has proven to be a hit among children and parents alike. Towey's songs tell dramatic tales of childhood adventure through catchy melodies, soothing vocals and performances by first-class musicians.
